Air Racing returns to the skies over South Wight next weekend after a gap of almost ten years. Based at Sandown Airport, where there will be plenty for the public to see, the 25 mile circuit sees the small propeller aircraft fly over the southern side of Godshill on their way to Chale where they make a spectacular hard left turn to then follow the coast round St Catherine’s Point, Ventnor, Shanklin and Sandown Bay before another hard left turn over Yaverland brings them back to Sandown Airport. Each race consists of four laps totalling 100 miles.
Saturday’s race for the Grosvenor Challenge Trophy starts at 15:30.
Sunday’s race for the Battle of Britain Challenge Trophy starts at 13:00.
So, find a high vantage point to see these little planes race it out as the fly at just 500 feet.
The video below, from the race over Alderney in 2015, shows you something of what to expect to see.
