Godshill Man Arrested Following Armed Police Raid

Late yesterday afternoon armed police descended on a property in Jubilee Close, Godshill and took an elderly man into custody at Newport Police Station.

Exactly what the gentleman has been arrested on suspicion of remains unclear. Apparently it follows an altercation with a cold caller earlier in the afternoon.

    A 67-year-old man is to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Friday 10 August) charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

    The Island Echo have provided a further update:

    David Lench of Jubilee Close, Godshill is accused of possessing an imitation Revolver handgun with intent to cause fear of violence, contrary to Section 16A and Schedule 6 of the Firearms Act 1968.

    Mr Lench has been given unconditional bail and is due to appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 15th September.

    No plea has been entered.
