September saw Godshill’s Terry Crow make his 20th trip to the London Bikeathon in aid of Bloodwise. Every year Terry has organised a group of cyclists from Godshill and around the island to take part. Besides the coach to get the group to London and back, there is also a second vehicle to take all of the bikes! At the end of the event, Terry was presented with a certificate and trophy to celebrate his 20 years.
There was another great turnout this year as 21 cyclists (including 5 from Godshill) set out in the coach followed by the lorry well before six in the morning. Terry again used his charm and Wightlink kindly supported the group by providing free passage across the Solent.
Slight delays on route meant that the group started slightly late but had a tremendous send off by the Bloodwise personnel. The group completed the standard 26 miles around the City of London (some did a few extra miles as they got lost!) plus 6 of the group took on the longer challenge of 52 miles taking in a trip to Richmond Park as well.
The IoW group managed to get ahead of Terry towards the finish so that they could all be there to cheer him across the finishing line.
The day was not over, though. There was a dinner followed by an uplifting journey back to the island that included nibbles, drinks, games and even a raffle.
It is hoped that this year the group has raised £5,000 for Bloodwise.
PLEASE – sponsor Terry. He has raised a lot via paper-based contributions. However, although a total internet technophobe, he has now to create a JustGiving page – but desperately needs some more sponsors on it – you can give him a shove off.
